Wellhead Control System Upgrade

On a Norwegian offshore installation there have been reported external and internal hydraulic leakages, solenoid valves failed in intermediate position and other serious problems in the wellhead control system. Frequent work orders have been set in motion to solve the problems, without finding the root causes. The working environment in these wellhead control panels is bordering on unhealthy since the oil leaks are causing oil vapor. Heaters are also turned off because they generated such a large quantity of oil vapor that it became impossible to stay inside the control panel area.

Study

Lexar AS was contracted to do a study in 2006 for the complete wellhead control system. The conclusion from the study advised an upgrade of the complete system in accordance with the latest regulations and standards. This task involved a run-down of all aspects of the case, and finding the right solution was a matter of time, thoroughness, technology and innovation. The 3D illustration below shows how we envisioned the new control panels, which is a part of the upgraded system.

Cooperation with Aker Kværner Elektro

Aker Kværner Elektro AS was in May 2007 awarded, by the field operator, the main contract for engineering purchasing and installation of the upgraded wellhead control system. Lexar AS is proud to announce that we are cooperating with Aker Kværner Elektro on this contract, as specialist within wellhead control systems and instrumentation. The complete upgraded system is planned installed summer 2008.
