The B-11 platform is located in the German sector of the North Sea, southeast of the Ekofisk Complex. The platform is a booster station for the gas pipeline to Emden.
A project for ensuring safe return to B-11 after platform evacuation has recently been assigned to Lexar. When the B-11 platform is unmanned there shall be status lights indicating whether it is safe for the pilot to land on the helicopter deck or not.
In order to ensure safe landing, gas detectors will be installed beneath the helicopter deck. These gas detectors will control the status lights, and the status lights will flash to indicate safe or unsafe landing.
The system will be powered from its own battery, which means that it will be up and running even after a platform shutdown.
The system is designed according to CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) regulations, and this type of system will possibly become a standard system for future Norwegian platforms in the North Sea.
